Annual General Meeting and end of year social breakup

The 2017 AGM and Christmas breakup social held on 9th December in Drycraft East was well attended.

Ray Jones provided a summary of the year’s events. Looking back it was definitely an active and eventful year. Membership continues to be strong and the exhibitions were very successful. Ray advised the meeting that fees for classes are to increase by 3% in 2018 although casual fees and membership will remain unchanged. There are still some vacancies in some of the classes particularly Wednesday evenings.

Jim Shelley our treasurer reported that financially the year was a success with classes breaking even for the year. This is a turnaround from the previous year when they made an operating loss. The operating surplus was up this year on the back of good art sales at two annual exhibitions and successful workshops. In 2018 the annual exhibition is in October and will fall in the 2019 financial year so will not contribute in 2018.

All existing committee members were re -elected to their current positions and we welcome Robyn Jenkins, Rosemary Morgan and Mike Jaffitt (nominated and voted in absentia) onto the committee.

Paul MacDonald Smith was awarded life membership of the Group in recognition of 30 years tutoring in tonal realist painting. This is a tremendous achievement and we thank Paul for his dedication. Paul has tremendous patience and the ability to pinpoint those areas where changes in technique will really benefit the individual and we look forward to continuing to have his artistic guidance further into the future.

The meeting concluded with a very pleasant social get together.
