Prize Winners and Judge’s (Timothy Greaves) comments

Highly Commended – Rodney Maddock, Kakadu Rocks , Outstanding balance between representation and symbolism, great use of colour and flattened forming.

Highly Commended – Eric Harvey, In Forrest Cave Watercolour , Amazing use of Watercolour as a medium to create light and the sense of transitioning from one space into the next.

Highly Commended – Amy Zhang , Lock Down Fantasy, Very audacious work, great sense of humour, and control to manifest space and shape in a place beyond reality.

Highly Commended – Rosemary Morgan, Burst Of Colour Pastel
Lovely brushwork, to precisely distorted and construct nature. As well as an intelligent balance of colour.

Highly Commended –Thilly McLean- Richmond Bridge Tasmania
Immediately recognizable. With a great transition of colour to build light. A very hard landmark to fully capture from either side.

Highly Commended – Matthew McLean Springtime In The Broadway, Subtle use of the pencil to construct the world, great use of vivid and intense colours

Second Prize Oil or Acrylic – Janet Crockett, Pool Play Oil, Lovely bold brush marks and colour, creating a dreamy reality as well as the tense balance of nostalgia

Second Prize Works On Paper – Gaylene Allan, Contemplation Monoprint, Effortless use of shapes and blocking that creates a beautiful transition through the layers of the work.

First Prize Oil or Acrylic – Shirley Melissas, Kakadu, I chose this for the great use of layering of paint, both the building of brush marks to form the earth and the reductive of the paint to create shadow and atmosphere. The landscape is formed both precisely and intuitively.

First Prize Works On Paper – Christine Chappell, Percussion in Red and Black Silkscreen, This work stands out immediately because of its bold use of colour and content within the work. But its great strength is its control line to build form.

Presidents Award – Rachel Sherwood, Tree Of Rising Joy (Acrylic)
A beautiful, colourful and joyful work which eloquently conveys the message of the title.
