As Autumn turns chilly, it is a great time to hunker down with our creative pursuits. The Group’s Sketch Out days, Life Drawing and Paint and Chat are wonderful opportunities to develop our skills, produce work, and create art with company.
Box Hill Art Group’s Midyear Members Exhibition takes place 17th – 22nd June with entries closing 3rd June. There is an increase in prize money, no entry fees and exhibiting is open to all financial members of the group.

Sketch Out
Fitzroy Gardens – 28th April 2024
While the good weather lasts, join us to draw on Sunday 28th April at Fitzroy Gardens. Meet near Captain Cook’s Cottage for a couple of hours of sketching and painting followed by lunch at the cafe.
For your diary – May’s Sketch Out will be at Burnley Horticultural Gardens.

MONDAY
Farimah Eshraghi
Farimah has been with us a long time. Her Monday morning classes are popular because she is an incredibly skilled and helpful tutor who is familiar with all media and can really help people to improve their painting and drawing. Click HERE for more information.
TUESDAY
Aimee Li – Introduction to Watercolour
On Tuesday afternoons Aimee Li conducts a class called Introduction to Watercolour or Watercolour Basics. Watercolour is a versatile medium well suited to both sketching and major studio works. This is a great opportunity to learn or refresh the techniques which underpin successful watercolour paintings. Aimee’s course is carefully structured with each lesson building on the previous week. TUESDAY
Craig Rawlings
If you feel that your art has plateaued book into Craig’s Tuesday evening class and your creativity will be reawakened. This term Craig will be focusing on plein air drawing and painting. One of the classes will be outside but Craig has a great idea to make plein air possible in the studio. Click HERE for more information.
WEDNESDAY
Natalie Doubrovski
Natale Doubrovski’s class on Wednesday evenings is a wonderful opportunity to expand your artistic horizons by exploring different media and techniques with emphasis on developing observational and drawing skills. This is an opportunity to try media such as charcoal, acrylics, graphite and watercolour pencils as well as pen and watercolour washes for travel sketching. These classes are very good for beginners or even for more experienced artists to overcome their apprehension of unfamiliar media and techniques and finding a direction which best suits them personally.

SATURDAY
Tessa Joy
When the cares of the week have abated, it’s time to relax with a couple of hours of painting on Saturday afternoon with Tessa Joy. Tessa offers a wealth of experience across all media. Apart from individual help with your current and prospective paintings, Tessa offers some art theory to stimulate some new ideas. Click HERE for more information.
SATURDAY & WEDNESDAY
Life Drawing
Develop and hone your drawing skills at our monthly two hour life drawing sessions with Box Hill Art Group. You will find great professional models and friendly fellow artists. All levels of ability are welcome. Cost $20 per session, please book on the Box Hill Art Group website. The sessions are untutored.
Bring your own paper and drawing materials, (tables, easels, boards, coffee tea and biscuits) are provided.
WEDNESDAY
Paint and Chat
On Wednesday a group meet in Drycraft West to paint and chat from 1 – 3pm except for once a month when the room is reserved for life drawing. It’s a friendly atmosphere so come along and join us. This is an all media session.

Exhibitions
Dianne Fogwell – Prescience – Geelong Gallery – 23rd March – 28th July
IT’S WORTH THE TRIP
The Geelong Gallery currently has an outstanding exhibition. A single work by Diane Fogwell comprising 56 colourful hand printed panels featuring woodcut, linocut and burn drawings. It depicts the Australian outback including flora and fauna as it changes across the seasons through bushfire and climate change.
