Class 1: Major Fundamental Techniques

Embark on your watercolour journey with us and discover the joy of creating vibrant and expressive artworks. Whether you’re just starting out or aiming to refine your techniques, this class is tailored to support your growth as an artist.

Materials List

  • Paper: 18 x 26 cm pad or sheet of 300 GSM watercolour paper for practice and value studies. Saunders Waterford 300 GSM rough paper, 56 x 76 cm sheet (cut into four 28 x 38 cm sheets), for paintings.
  • Palette: Watercolour palette with at least three separate good mixing areas.
  • Pigments: Any good quality pigments. Colours that I recommend: Sap Green, Cerulean, Cobalt Blue, Cobalt Turquoise, Cobalt Blue, Ultramarine Blue, Violet, Alizarin Crimson, Cadmium Red, Neutral Tint, Paynes Grey, Burnt Umber, Burnt Sienna, Yellow Ochre, Cadmium Yellow, Lemon Yellow, White Gouache.
  • Brushes:  Use brushes what you’re comfortable with. I normally use: Squirrel mop brush #14, #18 for the first wash. Synthetic brush #10, #12, #14 for the intermediate washes and detail work. Rigger for tiny details and lines. Sable or any soft brush #10 for foliage and trees.
  • Others:
  • 2B pencil and kneaded eraser
  • Small Spray Bottle
  • Water container
  • Household sponge or natural sponge
  • Paper towel
  • Roll of Artist’s tape

Tutor Profile

Aimee, a talented artist, developed a passion for art from childhood, specializing in Chinese calligraphy and painting. Her career as a curator, along with extensive global travels, deepened her appreciation for both traditional Eastern and Western art.

Over the past dozen years, Aimee has cultivated a deep fondness for watercolour. She has embarked on a journey of learning, creating, and exploring this art form, marked by her unwavering determination and continuous practice. With the growing popularity of her artwork, she has become a sought-after tutor, sharing her skills with the local community.

Aimee’s multicultural background and diverse artistic influences are evident in her work, enriched by a unique cultural perspective. She focuses on realism and excels at creating atmospheric landscape paintings. Her delicate use of colour and simple yet powerful brushstrokes create a fresh and natural elegance, conveying deep emotions and significance in each piece.

Achievement:

The artwork “Sunday Morning at Mailing Road” was selected for the Camberwell Art Show 2023. 

The artwork “The Winter Sea, Sunset” was selected for the Bluethumb Curations Winter Wonder 2023.

Solo exhibition “The World Around Me” in Mackley Members’ Gallery at Victorian Artists Society from 01 March 2024 to 28 March 2024.

Community exhibition “In the Neighbourhood” at Town Hall Gallery from 19 June to 28 July 2024.

Victoria Artist Society “Paint The world Around You” intermediate watercolour tutor from October 2023 to April 2024.
